Machete is great; scabbard is dangerous! September 7, 2010 Douglas B Kubel (Chapel Hill, NC United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used the machete this weekend to start clearing vines and brush from a hillside. The machete worked very well, slicing through the tangled growth with little effort. As I moved down the hill, I put the machete back in its scabbard. When I later pulled the machete from the scabbard, I had to use my left hand to hold the scabbard down while I pulled the blade out with my right hand. Little did I know that, on only the second time the blade had been put in the scabbard, it had severed all of the stitches holding the scabbard together. When I pulled the blade out, it took part of my left index finger with it. Result - lots of blood, but no permanent damage. It could have been much worse. Be warned.
DON'T PLAN ON USING THIS... August 31, 2010 OGGIEDOG 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have purchased items from SOG and found the quality outstanding and had no hesitation to purchase the machette for our camping expeditions. This so called machette broke into three pieces on a small sapling and when I say small it was no bigger than the diameter of my pinkie... I actually used my camping knife (a SOG creed) to cut the sapling down. SOG should be ashamed to put thier name on a low quality product like this. I honestly belive that the Walmart camping machette would be of better quality than this. They should reanme it the MASHOTTY. If someone wants to respond to this and tell me how to post pictures I would like you all to see this in pieces without a scratch, mark, or any blemish on the blade. Like I said I do own other SOG knives and the quality is unparalleled however this new cheap line of products they are putting out is garbage.
Perfect for getting the job done August 25, 2010 Luke (FOREST LAKE, MINNESOTA, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This machete worked perfectly, it was sharp right out of the box. The well formed handle ensures that you'll have maximum grip at all times while you're using it. It fit my hand perfectly and will always get the job done. The saw on the back is great for sawing through branches that are too thick to cut. This Machete is exceptionally well made and I am very happy with it.
The Perfect Machete!!! August 23, 2010 Charles Rockett (Baton Rouge, La.) Thanks Sog!!! Cuts thru half inch + thorn vines with ease. 13 inch blade is great. Doesn't get tangled during the upstroke. I cut a 2 inch oak branch with the saw with no problem. AWESOME!!!
The "Cool" Machete August 18, 2010 Guy Zoghby (St. Louis, MO USA) I wanted a machete suitable for clearing overgrown trails when hiking and for general use when camping. This one is just what I hoped it would be and has been excellent. The price was comparable to a similar one from Gerber but the SOG looks way cooler.
It arrived in a study plastic blister pack. The knife and handle appear well constructed. The blade came very sharp. The sheath seems like an after thought. The sheath and knife fit nicely in my daypack.
On the trail, the machete worked as expected. It cut through overgrown brush with ease. With a whack or two, it cut through tree branches 1 - 2 inches. The rubberized handle is very comfortable and easy to hang on to despite heavy forces. The saw is serviceable in a pinch but stay focused on keeping your hand on the handle. If (due to sweat or rain) your hand slips off the handle when pushing to saw, you could have a major injury.
The generous 18" size and sharp tip will also help you feel like you have some good personal protection.
SOG makes very cool knifes and this machete ([...]) is no exception.
You join the "cool kids" at camp when you come with this one. Buy it!
